ARTeffect

Ortiz, while a resident at SALTQuarters in Syracuse, NY considers the interaction between art and work in the lives of individuals and the life of the Syracuse community. In her project ARTeffect, she acknowledges the meaningful work of Syracuse artists by asking the question, “How many total hours have Syracuse artists worked at making art?”

 

In return for an answer and permission to take a photo of the artist in a WWKY uniform she pays them $21.35 (the median hourly wage of fine artists in central New York as determined in 2014 by the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics).
