The Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver invited Patty Ortiz to participate in a human-powered, socially-distant parade on Saturday, October 3, 2020 to celebrate the opening of the exhibition “Citizenship: A Practice of Society.”

Ortiz hired two DACA recipients (“dreamers”) to ride in flower draped shopping carts pushed by US citizen volunteers. All wore flower patterned jump suits. Using megaphones, the dreamers chanted a collection of memories taken from conversations with Dreamers.  Their chants conveyed the dreadful uncertainty of being first accepted then rejected and as of fall, 2020 still living in limbo. A large banner stating “NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL” trailed behind the carts.
