I grew up in San Antonio Texas and was sometimes ridiculed by my family and friends for being dark. After being influenced by American TV and specifically the Noxzema commercials, I decided that I would coat my body in Noxzema every day to try to make myself lighter. This memory has enticed me to consider the layers and meanings behind this action. Why was my indigenous past hidden and frowned upon? Where am I from?
